Select the Insert key on your keyboard in order to to change your SAP system from Overwrite mode to Insert mode.

You then see the abbreviation in the bottom-right corner of your SAP window change from OVR to INS. 

With each new session you create, the system defaults back to Overwrite mode.

The Insert and Overwrite modes determine how text entry functions in SAP.
